I Am Last week we had a gate, this week we have a name, Shepherd. The Good Shepherd lays down his life for his flock and he did but let's take another look: Jesus did much more than go to the cross. Jesus took the time to call us by name and lead us by example to a life worth living. A new life full of love and peace and value. So here we are with another "I Am" from the Master. By simply stating what he is, he is allowing us the uncomplicated look at a life of love, of compassion, of freedom and of giving. A life free from want, free from angst, free from despair...depression...anger...war; the list can go on for quite a long piece of paper. Simply, I Am, but we muddy the waters by doubting, looking the gift horse in the mouth, biting the coin to make sure it's real. When do we trust and just say yes to God? Remember, anytime is the right time and now, is a good time. There are more I Am phrase of Jesus to come to these pages but a couple that may not be on the list are favorites of mine. Do you remember the story of Jesus with the woman at the well. She was going on and on about her people and their worship and declared their hungry anticipation for the coming of the Messiah. That is when Jesus first said in the Bible who he was, clearly, succinctly and surely when he said to her, "I Am He". Sure would like to have been there for that. Another time, is when he is being interrogated by the priests and Pharisees about whether or not he is greater than their father, Abraham and he says to them, again clearly and succinctly, "Before Abraham was, I Am". If we need any more explanation of his identity after hearing and reading those two statements then maybe we aren't listening very well. Amen.
